A Honest geek or a charming freak …..
I was at home this weekend and there was this school gal who came up to meet me.Its been 3 years since we met and the minute she saw me working on a black terminal with all chartacters on keyboard jumping on to screen(OOps! i was only building Ooo1.9 and yeah did i tell u .it takes 12 hrs to build them). The furst thing she uttered was “Geek” yes i nodded , for i knew long ago i didntfit the normal social expectations level. iam a geek. :)
She was asking me out :) a rare thing really was and we just sat down upon talking about this.She wasnt new to geek world ! she being a CS UG at iitm knew more than that.
The first question that came up ” thyagu u got a gf man ? “
I said NO ( and a wry smile across her face she expected this answer. Looking at my dirty tshirt and watchless wrist , torn jeans she said no wonder dude!! )
I asked if her if she would ever date a geek.Just go out on a dinner may be ? and then she immediately popped up a next question .
How would i behave? how would i ask a geek out !! i sat down remembering all the thinsg i had read :) i knew about myself and then came the list …
- Don’t say it, email it: The power of the written word, errr…typed word, I mean the power of email. Do not take this lightly. If you want your geek to do something for you or to remember it, be it taking the trash out on Thursdays or your Mother’s birthday present or dinner with the neighbors, don’t tell him, send him an email about it. Better yet.
- Don’t boycott geek dinners. Attend a few with your geeky lover. Get to know his friends. Get to know him in his element. Believe me, you can have fun in geek dinners.
- Do appreciate his honesty, but Don’t expect much diplomacy. Let’s be realistic. Your geek is not going to be the one who has a way with words. He is not going to be the most charming lad you met. And there is a chance that he might be so straight forward sometimes that he could hurt your feelings. Please understand that he doesn’t mean to offend. He just doesn’t know any other way. Please remember that he also won’t play mind games with you and with him, what you see is what you get. So in the long run, it is better to be with an honest geek than a charming freak.
- Do enjoy his attention and passion. Geeks are intense and passionate about subjects of their desire. Your geeky lover will be the most passionate mate you have ever known. be it books , movies ,writing , trekking or lying down on the sand on a shivery night .. try to enjoy Enjoy!
- Geeks are more patient. Whether they get it from sitting in front of computers writing hundreds of lines of code to create a fraction of a program or the t-shirt and jean culture they work in day to day (more casual), geeks seem to take everything in stride. I’m a high maintenance girl and get a little moody from time to time. I find geeks’ logical problem solving ways are very effective in getting me beyond my bitchiness and back to reality.
Whats in a geek :) ha ! u know it !! :P
As i kept checking everything down she realised i wasnt being entirely wrong ! i had my reasons to be the way iam :) probably !u havent been used to a life far more intresting and fun ….
When i finsihed saying this i had this terribly serious look on my face she realised :p taggy had gone senti :p she burst out laughin ! she knew exactly what i was saying some guy was talking the same about her she was a geek tooo …

thyagu it looks as if gals dont like arnd the geeks but i promise deep under they know they r the most trustables for the rest change with trends and times , geeks are alwas geeks.. just the way u say
