:) the protest that is reservation.
Posted on 25th May 2006 by TaggyNo im not writing another entry on the reservation protests nothing against it nothing for it. Im jus sitting down to write what happened right in my house jus a week ago.
The topic was ofcourse the current hot one.Is reservation required ?
it was the day when i had signed the Y4E papers and had registered my protest .And my father was strictly FOR IT
the already heated discussion had just ended when my mobile buzzed with a message from one of my friends as far as punjab. it was the usual jokes doing rounds on the reservation.Only this one explicitly had those SC words in it and my father was so furious he threw down the mobile on to the floor and my already weak mobile jus broke out. and the discussion ended.
After a while though i really cudnt say he was wrong in voting FOR it. at the sametime i wasnt doing anything wrong ,by voting against it.
i somehow think a “induvidual is the way he has been brought up ” and probably therein lies the reason why we are ended up on the two opposite sides of the debate.
My father grew up in this village near the Kolar gold fields. At a time caste discrimination existed big time.He often recollects he wasnt allowed to wear chappals( not that my grandfather could afford one ) still it was t he rule and he couldnt enter in to a village temple or actually be taking bath in the village tank .and the grudge never died away.He went on to become a fossil research scientist ,and slowly climbed in to the ministry ladder and two days after he actually entered the Ministry of mines.
And you look atr me on the other side. I have never been to the village my father grew up in .I travelled all 12 years of my schooling in a car.Went to a wondeful school ofcourse had nice teachers and a great friends circle .I never had th eexistence of caste apart from filling up the usual fees slip. otherwise i hardly thought about it.
And now in to college , the difference has only gotten thinner i am here right on merit,i was getting this computer science irrespective of my caste. so that wasnt a big deal and in to the college i dont see anything happening . and so i believe its time probaboy to throw away these caste reservations and give away for a much more relevant system of consideration of the oppressed.
Reservation based on the basis of economy was othjer suggestion.Sounds a good one ,this has been nicely manipulated too.Its so easy of your father works in a oorivate company or has his own business to actually show a slary slip that shows your income as something less than 5000 per month and then u get free education .Something i see happening in my college.
A guy actually owning a laptop,L series motorola, acutally submits in a slip saying his dad earns less that 6k a month and hence exemption of fees. nothing to laugh about i have not an idea what sthe best ? let people tell me
and all that i can actually tell my father if he is reading this is probably that its time he can make a reassessment of the scenario :) .may be he can understand why i had registered a protest .
all said not for a second i would love those “great jokes” let me show u one i just received today :)

.. is reservations more important or the infrastructure the college provides???
we want good education , for that we need good infrastructure.. right???
so are the colleges/ universities providing the right infrastructure?
If given a change to fight… i would opt to fight for the right infrastructure!
we need to fight for the right infrastructure than fighting for the reservations.
hmm.. does that make any sense??
but the joke to good… ROFL!! :))
Buddy, you are wrong in your assessment. I do agree that you didn’t need reservations but there are millions of other people who need it. People have analyzed this issue scientifically and they have concluded that reservations are needed for creating social equality. When I was in IITB, I was also against reservations. But I was too naive then. As I went to grad school and matured more by understanding science, I could understand the need for reservations. FYI, I am from the so called privileged class. Even if I want, I cannot get reservations. But I am convinced that reservations are needed for social equality. Maybe one day when you grow up and achieve a level of maturity, then you will appreciate what I am saying now. Till then, I could appreciate why you are like this now. I was like you once upon a time. I thought my clan’s chances were taken though backdoor using reservations. Now I really how stupid I was then. I hope you also could understand it one day. Keep an open mind on the issue and read more. Study the issue scientifically rather than politically or emotionally.
