State of Wikipedia

“Wikipedia is an excellent source of information but that as well could be its problem ”

Reading through Scripting Blog he talks about the battlefield Wikipedia and the Microsoft being its latest victim

The whole incident started when Rick was offered pay for writing Pro-microsoft in wikipedia pages relating to Openoffice standards and he writes about the deal here

Although the whole issue came under heavy criticism including Jimmy Wales founder of Wikipedia itself,he doesnt have the moral stand either when he was publicly reavealed to have edited his own Bio on wikipedia removing his partners names from it. Yes what microsoft did was horribly wrong in my opinion but that also brings to fore the basic flaw that exists in the open editable document.

if this custom were to actually escalate ,then probably everyone with money would hire a blogger with lots of credibilty to write for them .how silly ?

The most recent incident that comes to my mind was when two of my friends were supposedly having a bet regarding “if a a particular football player had actually played for a team” ,the discussion was eventually won by the guy who managed to actualy edit the player`s page in wikipedia adding his content and thats it ! given a choice i believe we would accept whats on the wikipedia atleast 9 out of 10 times :)

Although its a real easy way to win a bet . what happens when someone is looking for the information .I have no idea if the guy actually reverted the page contents nor do i know who that guy really was :)
