Ha Ha India
It took less than 2 weeks for ” Ho ha India ” to become ” Ha Ha India” . How could one of the strong contenders for World cup crash out so soon.
Honestly i cant consider it a upset for bangladesh did more than one thing correct and you see upsets when something happens out of the blue.Bangladesh bowled superbly ,consistently with excellent fielding not allowing indians to accelerate at any point.And then came back to bat with a lot of calm and composure to win by 5 wickets.This certainly didnt look like an upset to me.
The match with bermuda went well,yes but they had nothing in their attack to threaten even the bangladeshis.And against the srilankans, the zeal and enthusiasn with which they batted ,bowled and fielded was such a contrast with the indian team.Many of them playing to save their careers.Sourav did not accelerate because one failure and people will pounce on him.Harbhajan trying to bowl too fast to bring down the over rate.Sachin playing with no responsibilty ,no one could throw him out of his team.Dravid was the captain and scored atleast a fifty.Dhoni can hit only when the ball is floated to him and the place is sub continent.Yuvraj was run out.Sehwag could do nothing but hit out a few deliveries.
And india came back home and deservedly so .All this done ,what do we do now ? who should be held responsible ?
I think lot of it goes on to the selectors.Showing patience thats not going to bear fruit with sehwag.Kumble being sidelined one too many times instead of over spinning harbhajan( whatever happened to the turbonator) .Taking irfan on tour and not bowling him .What this world cup performance means is ,most of the star players in team go without ever getting a chance to lift the world cup.This team has been in the favourites spot one too many times and only for the money.If you can sell india as the top contender your TRP shoots up , if you can get sachin to sell energy biscuits ,their sales increase , if indian captain can sell fizzy drinks then the entire generation goes crazy shouting Ho ha india.
I would believe atleast now the management wakes up to see what we have to done to our dear game.We have created models and not cricketers.These people could sell Mayur suitings for you ,fizzy drinks for your kids,energy biscuits for you and cycles for you but not play they should be .
I believe Chappel was very right in asking tendulkar to see if its time for him to retire.He is such a shadow of himself that its becoming a burden on himself.If the question of best batsman was to arise ,im sure Brian Charles Lara would win it. For he has played that marathon 180 against Australia when they had to survive 2 days.He played and sweated when it mattered most ,while tendulkar could not raise his game in the most crucial game for the team and what could be his last worldcup match . The contrast was the atheletism displayed by Muralitharan and Malinga with their fielding and bowling .
Yes iam a little disappointed but iam sure we did not deserve to be in the super 8 .Atleast now the focus will shift from advertisements to serious cricket meanwhile enjoy the world cup :)
