Its been a wonderful day for me :-) .I finally moved to a new host and the experience has been wonderful. It took less than an hour for the domain to propogate and i managed to add 2 domains my old theyagar.info to my theyagar.com in just two commands :-) . Thanks to wordpress .

And the scheme i chose to take was the Grid Server and its amazing .I will list down the statistics

And Thanks to two people

I posted about how my hosting was really in shambles and needed to get it right in my earlier blog posts
and the very next day i got a mail from Gabe<MT> who told me about this 15%discount from kirupa.com by entering the coupon kirupa05

And yes ,i have ability to host 100 sites and 100Gb disk space. Mine doesnt gobble up diskspace or bandwidth so any not for profit groups looking for free hosting may be 200 MB space ssh access amd mysql/pgsql php . can mail me here : me@theyagar.com

Most preferably GLUG’s ,i know how difficult it can be to get to host somethingfor free with a good host for linux user groups, myown GLUG-T is generously hosted by Space-kerala .

and yes, since most of the hits to my .info were from google and i could not afford to lose all the crawled links :( so i hit upon a nice idea .Install the wp in new domain and get the permalinks redirect to work .

I reproduce the steps below

  1. enable SSH from your control panel ,and login to your shell by ssh
  2. Create an alternate domain which you previously had ,in my case it was theyagar.info .
  3. Once you created it,you must be able to see theyagar.info directory in your /domains/theyagar.info
  4. you need to do two things here ,to point theyagar.info to theyagar.com ,rather theyagar.info should server the same content as theyagar.com does .

cd ~/domains

rm -rf theyagar.info
ln -s theyagar.com theyagar.info

this creates the symbolic link and hence you get all your traffic to theyagar.info to serve content from theyagar.com

now for maintaing the old links, you will need a plugin PermLinks redirector .

Just configure it from options tab and make sure to check box

Redirect if hostname is not www.theyagar.com. . it redirects the old posts in to the corresponding new entries :-)

Hey Taggy! Glad to hear (via a blog search engine for ‘kirupa’) you switched to mt. They really do have people who are both extremely smart and friendly - a rare combination these days.

Cheers!
Kirupa :)

i know and i swear MT does it that fast ,its just that i was struck with a host where i had to wait one full day :( and hence 1 hour was so much fast !.and for the record MT offeres instant grid access ,i dont think any host offers that !
