why i will never use sify again
Posted on 5th November 2007 by Taggyyes .had a harrowing experience with sify customer care and i swear i will never use them again .
We wanted to buy a domain for our new idea and since sify is considered a huge player in internet hosting and domain services.We got it registered cityzen.in and i was waiting for hours together for confirmation of my payment and my control panel.
This is not the first time i have bought a domain ,i own atleast three other domains and i didnt quite like my previous host ( Techstream) and hence i chose a big player sify . Frustrated waiting for my confirmation mails which i usually get within 20 minutes from both mediatemple and techstream ,i decided to call up their customer care and when i did i was horrified with their IVRS,they had option for mall,broadband ,games and dialup but no internetservies .I decided to press arbit number and went to broadband services and he hung up my call . i dialled again and then i finally got through ,the lady was kind enough to see my issue and immediately activate it .I was wondering why they didnt do it earlier .
What followed was even worse ,i logged in to my control panel in mediatemple and setup another addon domain on the grid server and when i came to domain control panel and adjusted their name servers,it said ” The follwing actions will take 48 hours to take effect ” .This was crazy now ,i was used to instant nameservers update on all my previous hosts and a wait of 48 hours for any change in nameserver/MX record/A records will again require 48 hours .How crazy is this ? I have been so very used to excellent and ultra professional customer care at mediatemple that service like this made me feel so sick about sify .I finally decided to call up the customer care again and this time the guy who attended my call wont understand that i was asking for domain services and not broadband services.The very word internet in the discussion made him think i was asking for broadband and immediately transfered me to broadband section and the guy hung up the call .I made more than 20 calls to make sure i get this change done because i was not sure if i will be available for next 2 days and people needed to get started with it .
I thought of transferring the domain hosting but iam sure that will take more than a week going by their standards and moreover mediatemple doesnt allow you to buy .in domains or transfer them .So at the moment iam just waiting for the nameservers to be set right and hopefully i will never have to call up to their *stupid* 24*7*365 Days
customer care service again .I loved sify iway but i tell you ,i dont think i will go for it too from now on . Why would you have someone on your customer service desk when he doesnt even understand the difference between internet domain record changes and internet broadband . uh !
no more enthu to work,hopefully i see some changes tommorow and dont have to wait another day.
Anyone looking for some quality domain hosting ? i would say ( !Sify ) is the way to go .

I too agree . The situation hasnt changed (today is march 2008). They still dont have an option for domain related services. I got a direct cellphone number of a customer rep called ramesh (98402 58808) . Kind of shady why they cant have a direct board number available .
I would strictly suggest people not to go with shit service providers like Sify. It is like a government office, where you can expect anything to happen when you want. I made a blunder by trying to transfer a domain to sify and suffered alot for that stupid decision.
