MGL’07 is the introduction course conducted every year for the sophomores every year by their beloved seniors ;) . It attracts lots of want to be linux users since we have some really good facilities and opportunities here .
This year it started off really well ,actually the best mgl to have happened.Lots of people ( 200+) registrants and the new annexe lab and talented speakers made it really good. Its always a nice experience to learn from your seniors .The vibe is always good :-) .
And as a bonus this time people also got their hands on a Linux booklet which helps users get going with the class and also refer for useful things later on .
It comes with Useful commands, desktops,Equivalent applications with the one in windows ,so that users dont feel handicapped.
There was also a chance to describe the eye candy stuff in linux and they loved it :-) .
I am sure there are lots of people who will find this booklet of some use .
This booklet was colloborated over the internet using a wiki ofcourse :-). If you think you have people who need an introduction and easy help with commands you can as well show them the booklet and iam sure they would love it .
Here is the booklet Link http://theyagar.info/code/glugt-booklet.pdf
And what did i write in the booklet ?
well ,all that i wrote never came in the final draft and finally ended up writing a preface :( and iam not alone ,sp2hari’s writings never came too :P
Now the team gears up for second batch that starts on monday :)
follow mgl here on MSK’s blog

The one thing that i loved ubuntu was sudo .It was like magic making ordinary users root :-) .
It doesnt come by default with the fedora and so i added this way .For those wanting to do the same just see below
bash$su
bash#sudoedit -e -u root /etc/sudoers
find the below line in the file
” root ALL=(All) ALL “
add below that line
username ALL=(ALL) ALL
which is basically the same line copied with just the different username for which you want to give sudo permissions :-) .

Alright ,finally we have our own web presence for the GLUG-T . glugt.org went live today .
It brings with it a one stop place to know whats happening in the glug and also share and talk about GNU/Linux .
And yes iam a big fan of planet .So i just installed that one too .
You can check the follwing link
Hope to see many guys there .Give your feedback in the forums
I always thought if it would be good to have glug-t as ilug-t .

Thiagaraja college of engineering ,one of the premier institutions in southern india has bagged PCQuest’s IT innovation award for their TCENet project .Which is web based tool for students of the institute to communicate ,share and also use the intranet facilities .And the best part ,all of these have been created only using FOSS tools.Something that i feel very good about and we should be proud of it too.
The entire project was student handled hence a reason for even more prasie :-) .Over the few years ,as a member of GLUG-T i have been seeing a rapid growth and lot of activities from the college and we have learnt a lot from them from organising classes to planning a install fest .
I have been lucky to be in touch with Bala from the college and a few others whose blog i regularly visit .
It would be worth to keep in touch with these people and their glug .
some other blogs from their college that i regularly visit .
Geethapriya Krithika ( also a SUN ambassador ) and a solaris guy ananth .
Also check out their mailing list in case you want to join
and for those who haven’t been checking my college website would be surprised to see a new looking homepage that obviously looks great and also a facility to use the intranet sites or access intranet resources from outside the campus .

I had to reinstall my windows today morning and as a result lost my ubuntu grub . I see that many others have been doing this .Here is a quick how to restore .
1. Boot in to the OS using the ubuntu live cd or if you are using any other GNU/Linux variant then use you boot cd in to rescue mode ( Assuming you know how to boot in to single user mode) .
2 . on the command prompt
$sudo -i ( su for other variants)
root#grub
grub> find /boot/grub/stage1
(hd0,1) (might vary ,so note down this)
grub>root (hd0,1)
grub>setup (hd0)
and you will have the grub written and boot in to the linux :-)
