years of flirting with terrorism and perpetrators of terror is now being felt hard .sadly it is the people who are feeling it than the people in power as civilian security and democracy keeps dipping down .

exciting new start

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

yes,its pretty exciting now .My restlessness in holidays gave rise to a small hack, the twitter hack ,twitter.com/meninblue ( update: The scores and commentary was taken from their wap feed ) .Shortly after i released it ,i got a hello mail from Krishna Vedati ,the CEO of a silicon valley startup and they kindof liked my little hack and asked me if you could do some for them .

People who know me know it well, the word startup excites me for it allows

  • one to work with things that are close to his heart
  • Write production ready code overnight and see people use it the next morning
  • And best to work with people who are smart and will help you become smarter
  • Get paid to do what you love to do and learn to do the same in a better way
  • yeah the place is silicon valley the *hottest* technology bed

i told him i would love to and checking out their widgets page at plusmo ,i see a huge list of existing widgets and now i get to add some :) and hopefully ones that people will love to use and keep it on their phones.

Ok,its not for this announcement that iam making this post ,i wanted to put a few things

I told you how i landed with this oppurtunity ,a little idea ,one that people will *use* it and working with the latest in thing .

In my case twitter and cricket action that is on . Iam sure there are lots of people who do such hacks and better ones than mine :-) ,as much as it is fun making them i would suggest taking them to a bigger audience and build a even more robust app is exciting and challenging . The team at plusmo respects such ideas and hackers would love to work with them and same with me ,if you are in india and have some really cool ideas with proven skills with technologies (mobile html ,python, popular socialnetwork API’s ,linux and opensource ) then please feel free to mail me up ,i would be more than happy to get you in touch with some people who can help you out .

Also to tell my friends ,yes iam very excited to be working with a team that looks great on paper and does work thats as good and exciting .

more to come so keep watching …..:-)

If you have an internet enabled phone ,then do check out their page to create your own widget or use their existsing ones or mobilize your blog with a button :-)

Project Discover

Monday, November 19th, 2007

Hello All,

Little things sometimes leave impressions that urges you to do something about it .My recent talks with people who run these home for special god’s own children are urging me to contribute .
Contribution that can be sustained even if at some point i were to leave or someone who can take it full time .

I must accept as HoneyBee pointed out udavum and other popular organizations atleast have established enough funding channels so that they will never fall short of money .But there are countless little struggling homes who are trying to serve the same needy poot but lack of exposure and lack of funding channels us hampering them .This is the case with hundreds of orphanage home and i am starting to believe it is also my duty to help people i share the world with help provide others a better chance to live their life .

And i did talk to a couple of people and i tried explaining to them ,all of us are net savvy and we know what internet can do .If we cannot donate money or enough time to help those children i think we can use the internet to give the exposure that can may be bring them to people who won’t mind spending their money for helping special homes.

We call it ProjectDiscover and the below points are what we aim to do .

1. Visit any of the ailing special homes ,talk to the people there ,about its history ,number of inmates, founder ,what work they do and what are their future plans and also their current needs ( be it a building or set of benches or a roof thats yet to be built ) .

2. Profile everything with a camera ( snaps/videos) and write about them on a website ( blog ) and make them publicly available .

3.Give out enough information on the website so that anyone interested can easily find a way to donate them and also explain to them the incentives of donating money .Like in udavum ,If i were to donate a school bag to a child ,then i would be sent a photo of the child with the bag . Would be great isn’t it ?

4. Also create a place where the children can even voice out their opinion .

Ofcourse one man can’t take this up ,it will require a strong team that doesn’t mind doing it .I personally hope to start off by visitng blind school just opposite to the G.H and to the Orphanage Near Vayalur Murugan Temple and to Thiruvellarai Old age Home .

I will do that once i reach trichy and just after my sem exams ending on nov 29 .

Any company ? or suggestions atleast ?

if you are interested then do get in touch we can atleast start off in a small way and help some :-)

I understand ,its probably a little too big at this point ,but would like to know if people can join and may be we could help some ?

your thoughts and opinions ?? what do you think about its feasibility ?

Gift a Life

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

It is not the way I intended to live my life. It is dangerous, tough, thankless job… but someone’s got to do it. It’d be nice if society did not need people like me but while it does… I will be right there.

Tmb B1

Another of remarkable stories that i have loved listening to and would like to share .

Its not often that i feel like writing but today was indeed special ,i was talking to perimaa about her association with uthavum karangal . She has been a patron of the organisation for long enough .She would always ensure that every diwali and pongal she donates her grand child’s dresses to the children in the ashram .

What makes uthavum karangal so special ?

i think its the founder ,pappa vidyaakar .Great stories are weaved around great hearts and people and the story of uthavum karangal is one such inspiring one for not only me but all of us . It all started when vidyaakar found an abondoned child near the ticket counter and his rush to save the child .Soon he was to realize that the child wasn’t alone ,there were hundreds and thousands of such children .

It was this realisation that must have started a movement that has managed to safeguard so many young childrens lives and help them become themselves .More often than not its a matter of god education and confidence building .And with generous donations and very innovative schemes they have managed to pull off spectacular results .

Today ,uthavum karangal houses more than 2000 young souls ,all in wait of a better tomorrow .

The question is how can you and me help them have a go at future that you and me dream of ?

Money and time ofcourse, but it doesn’t have to be just one way ,their schemes are completely fulfilling and very very affordable to almost all of us . For a generation that has grown up spending money on ipods ,macbooks and 2K jeans ,spending 1000rs once in year on your birthday or your loved one’s birthday can make a lot of difference .

You can gift a complete set of books for just $12 or Rs 480 or gift a pair of shoes for Rs200 and the donated items will have the donor’s name on it .There is nothing like feeding a need child and you can do that as well .

Anna Dhanam - Gift of food

(You can provide lunch/dinner etc for our residents by sponsoring meals under these schemes. This will be a better opportunity to share and celebrate your birthdays, anniversaries etc.)

To Provide baby food for an infant/month US$ 15 Rs.600

and its not as if you only donate and you would not know what happened ,you can personally take your child in to their places and you will see how much goodwill you can earn .They never start their breakfast/lunch without thanksgiving to the donor ,a very sweet and heart warming song .

The schemes are a long list ,you can take a look at them here

http://www.udavumkarangal.org/ways-care.aspx

And if you are a part of a big corporate, you can join in as well by looking at here

http://www.udavumkarangal.org/corporate-participation.htm

Great things need to be carried along and one man cannot do it all the time .At some point it is the responsiblity of fellow citizens to help him build a society that he wishes for and therein lies the success of all of us together as a society .

I wish we can see more of these coming in our country too, there is nothing special or powerful about money as such except in its ability to create and buy things that can build something more important .What can be more important that education or food for the hungry or life for a abandoned child .I am fortunate i wasnt one ,but i could have been one ,not just me it applies to you .Just because you and me have been gifted and lucky enough ,it doesn’t mean we can afford to turn a blind eye towards these people .

I will try to put my bit for this definitely ,i will put up what i earn from this blog exclusively for uthavum karangal every month ,its not much i know but $40-$50 is still a money i believe can make a difference ,may be a pair of new shoes that the child will be proud to wear and go to school or a new set of books that he/she would love to turn pages and read or may be a new dress that he/she would love to show it to others .

Someone invested on our dreams and our lives have transformed. Today we are able to stand with our heads high, because there was somebody to care for us

Somehow it was very emotional to lbe able to listen to personal experience of these small children and how small gifts fom strangers can make a difference to their lives and to their confidence . I wish we could do more and more people help build a better tomorrow for these tiny tots :-)
